Program Overview
The objective of this program is to graduate an entry level diesel technician trained in all areas of diesel repair, maintenance, failure analysis, and diagnosis. The Diesel Technician Program is structured to provide the student with entry level job skills and knowledge to enter the work market as a diesel technician. Graduates are prepared in operations, maintenance, rebuilding and troubleshooting.
The term “Diesel Technician” or “Diesel Mechanic” is used to designate a worker that performs repairs to not only diesel engines, but also other diesel-powered equipment in the field.

The future today is leaning towards computer technology and transportation. By combining the two you come up with a diesel technician. Computers are changing transportation on a daily basis and needs computer savvy adults to lead the industry into the future. By learning how diesel vehicles work and combining that with your computer skills, you will change the future of America for the better for you and generations to come. As we move into a future of automated and self driving tractor trailers, someone will always have to program, diagnosis, and repair them.
THE NUTS AND BOLTS
In the Diesel Program you will learn electrical and electronic fundamentals, followed by powertrain systems which include automatic and standard transmissions, rear differentials, and related components. You will learn different suspension systems such as leaf spring and air ride (air bags) and steering systems. We will teach you hydraulic braking systems, ABS systems, and pneumatic braking systems along with electronic braking. You will learn how a diesel engine works from the outside in and the inside out. We will teach you how to communicate with the computers on trucks and troubleshoot problems using computers.
Career Opportunities
With the knowledge you gain here you can go into many different fields such as engine repair, fleet maintenance, transmission specialist, a electrical/electronic specialist (diagnosing and repairing computer problems). You can work in the field of trucking, railways, heavy equipment, or one of the many oil field positions available throughout the country or locally. You can earn certifications from Freightliner, Detroit Diesel, Mercedes Benz, ESCO EPA 609, Cummins Insite along with getting a jump on qualifying for ASE certifications.
